GLOWING SKIN IS ALWAYS IN

1/2/2018

Cold temperatures and low humidity levels create arid environments which steal moisture from our skin and hair.  If ignored,  dry skin can lead to cracking, bleeding and conditions like exczema. Indoor heat also robs the air of moisture,  and hot showers don't help! Routine moisturizing can help ease the symptoms, but you need to do even more to counteract the winter effects to keep skin soft and youthful. Reduce redness, chapping, and itching with these helpful winter beauty tips from the experts at Fringe Salon and Spa.

LATHER UP
The most important time to moisturize is immediately following your shower or bath. Applying moisture to damp skin to seal dampness into the skin. We recommend keeping a bottle near the bathtub, shower stall, and at all of the sinks in your home so you never forget to apply. It's not a bad idea to keep a bottle at your desk at work for after bathroom breaks either.

LISTEN UP
Not all moisturizers were created equal. Most over-the-counter moisturizers are petroleum-based and can actually further dry out your skin. Be sure to choose a product that has natural, nourishing ingredients. We suggest an oil-based product rather than a water-based product, because it’s more likely to help your skin retain moisture. Try Hempz's Triple Moisture Herbal Whipped Body Creme. Made with 100% pure natural hemp seed oil, this lotion provides dramatic skin hydration and nourishment which will soothe dry skin.
BUNDLE UP
It's a win - win. Scarves and gloves not only keep you warm. They also protect your skin from harsh winter winds and dry air. Also, don’t forget the sunscreen! Winter sun can be just as powerful as summer sun. Don't let the temperature fool you!  Apply a moisturizer with an spf in it before heading out in the elements.

FRESHEN UP
It is easy to forget to help the skin slough off dead cells in the winter months, particularly on our hands. Moisture can’t get in to the new skin if the dead cells are too plentiful creating a barrier. Find an exfoliating mask by Glo skincare or our Moroccan Oil body wash and use it on your face, hands, and even on your lips. Follow immediately with a moisturizer like Vital C Hand and Body quenching lotions to truly see a smoother, softer difference.

DRINK UP
A tall glass of ice water doesn't exactly sound appealing when the wind chill is below zero. In winter, we tend to drink less water because we opt for hot drinks like cocoa and tea. Don’t forget that your skin needs hydration from the inside, out. A little warm water with lemon can be very refreshing and hydrating at the same time! Avoid caffeine as it can actually further dehydrate your skin. Water is always your best bet. Cheers!

SEAL UP SPLIT ENDS
It’s no secret that winter weather can be super drying on our locks. Be proactive this winter  by using products that that will hydrate your strands and protect your hair from damage and breakage. Reach for products that help lock in moisture to protect your ends. In the unlucky event that you do find yourself with bothersome split ends, reach for a leave-in split end treatment to help reduce the appearance of uneven or broken ends. Redken's Leave In Split End Treatment works by conditioning the hair and strengthening the strands from root-to-tip.
