Cold temperatures and low humidity levels create arid environments which steal moisture from our skin and hair. If ignored, dry skin can lead to cracking, bleeding and conditions like exczema. Indoor heat also robs the air of moisture, and hot showers don't help! Routine moisturizing can help ease the symptoms, but you need to do even more to counteract the winter effects to keep skin soft and youthful. Reduce redness, chapping, and itching with these helpful winter beauty tips from the experts at Fringe Salon and Spa. LATHER UP The most important time to moisturize is immediately following your shower or bath. Applying moisture to damp skin to seal dampness into the skin. We recommend keeping a bottle near the bathtub, shower stall, and at all of the sinks in your home so you never forget to apply. It's not a bad idea to keep a bottle at your desk at work for after bathroom breaks either.
BUNDLE UP It's a win - win. Scarves and gloves not only keep you warm. They also protect your skin from harsh winter winds and dry air. Also, don’t forget the sunscreen! Winter sun can be just as powerful as summer sun. Don't let the temperature fool you! Apply a moisturizer with an spf in it before heading out in the elements.
DRINK UP A tall glass of ice water doesn't exactly sound appealing when the wind chill is below zero. In winter, we tend to drink less water because we opt for hot drinks like cocoa and tea. Don’t forget that your skin needs hydration from the inside, out. A little warm water with lemon can be very refreshing and hydrating at the same time! Avoid caffeine as it can actually further dehydrate your skin. Water is always your best bet. Cheers!
